The airline "International Airlines of Ukraine" was founded in 1992 as a national (base) carrier of a new independent state. UIA was founded by the Association of Civil Aviation of Ukraine and the largest Irish leasing company GPA (later AerCap BV).During 15 years of work, UIA managed to attract new strategic and financial investors. In 1995, the state shareholding was transferred to the State Property Fund of Ukraine. In 1996, the membership of UIA shareholders was supplemented by Austrian Airlines and Swissair, and in 2000 - by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).The organizational model of the public-private company allowed UIA to use the strengths of all shareholders: to adopt international experience in the field of passenger transportation and to introduce the best practices in the fields of business management, maintenance and service.
